One Piece Card Game

Launched by Bandai in 2022, the One Piece Card Game has become in three years one of the most active grading segments. Its premium cards — Alternate Art and Manga Rare — concentrate demand, and also stack up the most difficulties.

In short

On the One Piece Card Game, three defects explain most missed grades. Centering on early sets is irregular, with the inaugural OP-01 set particularly affected. The premium finishes on Alternate Art and Manga Rare cards — textured coating, special foil — hold fingerprints and mark under the slightest pressure. Finally, extended-art illustrations leave no safe border to handle the card: you inevitably touch the printed area. A scratch in a Manga Rare's foil is immediately visible and enough to pull the grade down.

The four One Piece traps

Premium
Foils that keep fingerprints

Manga Rare and Alternate Art coatings are highly reflective: a fingerprint stays visible and counts as a surface defect. Handle by the edges, shoot in indirect light.

Alt Art
Extended art with no margin

On illustrations covering the whole card, there is no neutral border to place your fingers. Every handling happens on the graded area.

OP-01
Early-set centering

Initial print runs, OP-01 first among them, show uneven centering. Measure before hoping for a 10: it is the leading reason cards fall short on the game's older sets.

Printing
Print lines

A visible print line generally caps the card around a 9, whatever its condition otherwise. It is there straight out of the pack — nothing to do with your handling.

What is worth grading

Manga Rare

The game's most sought-after rarity, styled after the manga panels. This is the segment where a high grade multiplies value the most.

Alternate Art of major characters

Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Shanks and the other central figures. Sustained international demand, including outside players.

Leaders and tournament cards

Leader cards played competitively carry dual demand, play and collection. Caution: they have usually been handled.

The rest of the pack

On common rarities, the grading fee exceeds the card's value. This is exactly where a pre-analysis stops you losing money.
