This is the arbitration of collectors who have moved past the PSA reflex: the American company strong on TCG against the French one with no customs. Both are legitimate — not for the same cards.
In short
CGC is the right choice if the card targets an international sale or is Japanese TCG: detailed subgrades, a slab well liked on Pokémon and Japanese cards, entry around $15-$20 — but submissions ship to the United States, customs and return included. PCA is the right choice if the cards stay on the French-speaking market: €10-€30 per card, a domestic shipment with no customs, turnaround in weeks — at the price of limited liquidity beyond francophone Europe. The card's destination decides, not the listed fee.
Prices and turnaround verified on 29 July 2026; official grids prevail.
The right call, profile by profile
Japanese collection: CGC
CGC has built a genuine reputation on Japanese TCG that the international market recognises. A CGC slab on a Japanese card sells everywhere; a PCA slab, mostly in francophone Europe. On this segment, the liquidity gap justifies the customs.
A lot of mid-value European cards: PCA
On twenty cards worth €30-€80 each, CGC logistics — insured transport to the US, declarations, VAT on return — eat the margin. PCA processes the same lot domestically, in weeks, with volume discounts. This is the use case the French company wins outright.
You want subgrades: CGC
If per-criterion detail matters — to understand a grade, argue a sale, track a collection — CGC prints it, PCA does not by default. It is the same service as BGS, at a much lower entry tier.
Cards meant to stay: the cheaper of the two
With no sale planned, liquidity stops mattering. What remains is full cost and turnaround — two areas where PCA wins from Europe — and slab aesthetics, a matter of taste.
Frequently asked questions — CGC or PCA
Is a CGC 10 worth more than a PCA 10?
Internationally, yes, clearly: the CGC slab is recognised wherever TCG trades. On the French market the gap narrows — and the PCA scale goes up to 10+, a notch the CGC scale does not have. Comparing numbers without comparing scales remains the classic trap.
Is customs to CGC really that expensive?
It is less the amount than the accumulation: insured outbound transport, possible handling fees, import VAT on return computed on declared value, and the risk of a hold-up. On a single mid-value card, that accumulation can exceed the grading fee itself.
Does CGC have a European centre?
No card-grading centre equivalent to the one PSA opened in Frankfurt: submissions ship to the United States. That was the case at our last check, on 29 July 2026; CGC's official page prevails.
Is PCA serious next to the American companies?
On its home turf, yes: the French company has graded since 2016, with several experts per card and a real domestic secondary market. What it lacks is not rigour but international audience — a parameter that only matters if you sell outside francophone Europe.
Is GradeMate affiliated with CGC or PCA?
No. GradeMate is an independent pre-grading tool with no affiliation to any grading company. The analysis gives the estimate for the company you target — CGC and PCA included — and compares it with the others.
