This is the most interesting duel in the hobby right now: the most established company against the one that replaced the grader's eye with a machine. They are not selling the same thing.

PSA sells liquidity: its slab resells faster and higher than any other, but the grade is a human judgement with no printed detail — entry at $59.99 at the Standard level created in September 2026 (€49.99 in the EU at launch), since the Value tiers were paused. TAG sells proof: a score measured out of 1000 points, sub-scores per criterion, an auditable DIG report online — but its real entry ticket is $149 in 2026 (lower tiers closed at capacity) and its young slab resells less easily. To sell, PSA; to document precisely a card you are keeping, TAG.

The card stays in the collection and condition is its value
TAG takes the lead: the DIG report documents condition to the point, in an auditable way, with no dependence on a grader's mood. It works like a certificate of condition — useful for insurance, inheritance or a future, well-argued sale.
You are torn between a 9 and a 10
The price gap between the two grades can be enormous, and that is where TAG's repeatability reassures: no grader lottery. Mind the other side of the ledger though — if the card comes back a 9, a TAG 9 resells below a PSA 9.
You grade at volume
Neither is cheap in 2026: PSA starts at $59.99 (€49.99 in the EU) and TAG at a real $149. For volume, the realistic arbitration involves CGC ($20 at Economy, €22.61 in Munich) or a European company such as PCA — after a serious pre-screen of what deserves a submission at all.

Is TAG harsher than PSA?
It is above all more consistent. The machine deals no lucky pulls: a borderline card that might sneak a 10 past a tired human grader comes out at the score its flaws measure. Near the top of the scale, TAG leaves less room for luck — in both directions.
Does the TAG report help resale?
With informed buyers, yes: showing the score breakdown builds confidence. But most of the market buys the slab before the report, and there PSA keeps a clear lead. The TAG report is an extra argument, not a substitute for liquidity.
Can a TAG-graded card cross over to PSA?
Crossover is possible, but it adds a shipment, fees and a delay, with no guaranteed grade. If the final destination is a PSA slab, go there directly — after checking the card actually has the level.
Why count TAG at $149 rather than $22?
Because TAG's regular tiers — Basic, from $22, Standard and Express — are closed at capacity: on 29 September 2026, only Priority ($149) and Walkthrough ($299) showed open slots. Comparing theoretical prices does not help decide a real submission.
